30 Days of Gratitude #16

Mood: Glub
Listening To: Sebastian Bach - Temptation
Word of the Day: Glub

1. March is over...or will be in an hour. What a rollercoaster month!  It wasn't a bad month, don't get me wrong, but with all the daily ups and downs, it's nice to look forward to a brand new month starting.
2. Got to shrug off the winter coat and boots today!  Lighter outerwear was very welcome.  Hopefully, no more bulky coats or clunky boots until next winter.  Bring on Spring!!!
3. Inspiration.  It's been a relatively inspiring couple of weeks.  Even taking the bad into account.

Gonna Geek out for a Moment

Mood: Giddy as a wee leprechaun counting his gold.
Listening To: The bells on the cats as they try to shake their collars off.
Word of the Day: Blasphemer!

Alright, so I'm a geek.  I like toys, superheroes, D&D (the real one not the fake new shit they've come out with)  And by toys I should explain; Electronics.  CE is the industry I've been in predominantly for the past 11 years.
Since making the switch from iOS to Android, I have to admit, I really like it.  I find it more user friendly, a better interface etc.  So, I've been looking at Tablets.   Samsung has really caught my attention with a couple in particular.  I first fell in love with their Tab Note 8.

Quad core processor, smart pen, multi window, a really well rounded offering, for quite a bit less than the iPad.  I won't knock Apple, I respect them, but this table really could do more for me, than the alternative.

So, a couple of weeks ago, I'm at work, reading through the new launch stuff for Samsung, and what to my wandering eyes should appear?
This Bad boy.

 The Galaxy Note 10.1 has alot of the same features I fell in love with in the Galaxy Note 8, but has;
A) A larger display
B) An Octo-core processor.

I'll admit one of the main reasons I fell in love with this tablet was that it gave me the ability to say Octocore in my presentations. :)
Faster processing, larger display, better camera.  Just a much better option overall.  So, I think I will be saving my pennies, and possibly jump into the tablet realm.  My Samsung phone has treated me better than my iPhones ever did, and I've been really happy with it.  And if I ever decide to break down and move into a Samsung SmartTV, then I can integrate it all together.  FTW!

End geek moment.

Morning Randomness

Was just asked if I was
a) Having an allergic reaction
b) Got punched in the face.
c) Didn't sleep last night.

Apparently I'm looking rough?

30 Days of Gratitude #14

1. Great night out with the fam.
2. 6 more sleeps til Cap 2 comes out.
3. Socks, because really, who likes cold feet?  Other than those freaks that insist on wearing dress shoes with no socks.

Mood: Elated
Listening To: The clock ticking
Word of the Day: Signature

Finally have my signature up on the blog.  You wouldn't believe how crazy it was trying to make it happen. But it has happened, and I'm happy.  Still not sure what I should do for a header, and I'm still looking for that perfect Dark Stormy image to signify me.  LOL

Bed is calling.

30 Days of Gratitude #13

Lucky number 13, and it falls on a Friday.  Love it!  Not a bad day today, slow for sales, but plenty of seeds planted, and fun to be had.

1. We had rain today, which is a lot better than snow.
2. Fun customers.
3. Warmth on the trek home.

Rain!

It"s raining. And aside from the jerk that just splashed me at the busstop, I'm happy that it's raining and not snowing. The crows are out in force. The ducks are back. And it's warm-ish.

Yay!!!

30 Days of Gratitude #12

Today was a pretty good day.  I'm still trying to get the background for the blog sorted out. I tried cheating and not creating something  myself, which is always a mistake, but live and learn.  I just want something that screams me.  Like stormy seas, or thunderstorms.  Bah!  On with the positivity.

1. The ability to recognize my own shortcomings.
2. Ham and Perogies.
3. Sticking to this, and building the positivity.

And for your viewing pleaure...a thunderstorm.

30 Days of Gratitude Day 6

1. Great night with the kids watching American Idol and disagreeing with 95% of what Harry Connick, Jr says.
2. Lunchtime Shenanigans with a great friend!
3. Looking at what's trending on the sidebar of Facebook, and realizing I now have something new to tease a certain someone about. Apparently there's going to be a Jem and Holograms live action movie?

And with that, I'm going to take my budding migraine, and go to bed. G'night y'all!

Throwback Thursday

I've never done one of these before, however, I couldn't resist this week.  As I was going through old photgraphs, I came across this gem.

I was stylin'!  And I'm also really glad the 70's are far behind me.

Happy First Day of Spring everyone!

30 Days of Gratitude #5

30 Days of Thankfulness Part Cinq:

1. Homemade Fried Rice and Springrolls, two of my favourite things.
2. Bus Drivers that remember you 6 months later who drop you off practically at your front door.
3. Not being just a number to an employer.

That last one is hugely important to me.  Most of my life has been devoted to working for people with a corporate agenda, not taking the time to understand their client base, or their employees.  Now I'm working for a small business, right alongside the owners, and while it's not the most money I've ever made in my life, it's certainly the happiest I've been in a very long time.

1. Smiling happy children.
2. Improvisation.
3. Trees.

A Mind Opening Read

The Home Child Interviews  - A very interesting and mind opening article.

For the past few month on my days off, I've been helping a friend research and gather information on Canadian Soldiers who served in WW1, and were also British Home Children.

For those of you that don't know, the British Home Children program was set up to sent orphans and other "undesirable" children to Canada and Australia.  The program was set up under the pretense that these children were receiving training and assistance towards a better future.  The reality though was that most of these children were sent as cheap labour.  They were indentured servants until the age of 18, and quite a number of them, were robbed of their income.
Several of the boys that were sent over, took the opportunity of enlisted in the Canadian Forces in hopes of getting to see loved ones again as they passed through England.  Some lied about their age in order to qualify to serve.  Some as young as 14 were going off to war.

The homes were only supposed to take in Orphans, however due to the lucrative nature of the venture, many families were ripped apart.  Children were taken from parents having trouble making ends meet.  Single parents were lied to and told that their children would be far better off.  In many cases we've found that there was some communication with family once the children were settled in Canada.  Quite a few of the boys had knowledge of their parents, and put them on their attestation papers.  The most heartbreaking ones are the ones who listed the organization that sent them to Canada as next of kin, and the ones who had no family that they were aware of.
Children as young as 5 years old were sent to Canada through this program.

30 Days of Gratitude

In honour of it sucks to be Caeser day, I'm starting 30 days of Gratitude once again.
The concept is simple for the next 30 days I will post 1-3 things that I'm grateful for, be it something that happened that day, or things I'm genuinely thankful that I've got.
I've done this a few times with friends on Facebook, and have decided to cross post here, in hopes that it will get me back in the habit of blogging.

1. The friends and family that consistently support me, ground me, and smack me upside the head when needed.
2. Coffee on a cold never ending winter's night.
3. Warm Scarves
